Uganda’s Electoral Commission has designated Tuesday, February 4, 2026, as the official day to conduct Local Government Council elections in all electoral areas where the exercise earlier failed to take place or remained incomplete.
The polls will address leadership gaps across several tiers of local administration, covering City and District chairpersons, Municipality and City Division authorities, and representatives at Sub-county, Town, and Municipal Division levels.
Voters in the affected areas will also elect directly elected councillors, women councillors, and leaders representing Special Interest Groups, including youths, older persons, workers, and persons with disabilities, ensuring broader representation in local governance structures.
Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama confirmed that voting will occur at all gazetted polling stations within the concerned areas, alongside designated venues for electoral colleges where such arrangements apply.
Polling will begin at 7:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m., after which the tallying of ballots and announcement of results will commence immediately in line with established electoral procedures.
The Commission has further directed that each political party and independent candidate may deploy no more than two polling agents per station in the areas participating in this phase of voting.
Justice Byabakama called on voters, candidates, and election officials to maintain peace and discipline throughout the process, stressing the importance of observing all electoral laws and guidelines.
The move marks a crucial step in completing the local electoral cycle, with the Commission emphasizing that a transparent and orderly process is key to reinforcing trust in grassroots democratic leadership.
