President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni delivered a forceful message against corruption during a massive gathering at Kizinda Market in Bushenyi–Ishaka Municipality, warning Parish Development Model (PDM) officials that any form of extortion or theft from beneficiaries would not be tolerated. Addressing a sea of enthusiastic NRM supporters, he vowed to crack down on anyone sabotaging a program designed to uplift struggling households.
Joined by First Lady and Education Minister Janet Museveni, the president reflected on the journey Uganda has taken under NRM leadership, underscoring peace as the foundation of the nation’s transformation. He contrasted Uganda’s stability with turbulence in countries like Sudan, arguing that divisions based on tribe or religion have derailed progress elsewhere.
Uganda, he said, narrowly avoided such pitfalls thanks to the NRM’s approach.Museveni credited the establishment of strong institutions—particularly a disciplined army and police—as key to preserving the country’s stability. He reminded the crowd that backing the NRM was not personal support for him but an investment in national continuity and civic advancement, stressing that the benefits of stability are shared by all citizens.
Turning to development, the president highlighted Bushenyi’s evolution into a district of 17 sub-counties and town councils, 72 parishes, and 571 villages. He spotlighted major road upgrades, including the Ishaka–Kasese and Ishaka–Kagamba roads, and revealed that funding had been secured to overhaul the Mbarara–Ishaka route along with the Bwizibwera–Nyakambu–Buhweju–Nyakashaka–Nyabirizi corridor.Museveni also celebrated Bushenyi’s expanding electricity coverage, noting that only two sub-counties remain without power. He pledged to ensure Kyamuhunga Sub-county and Bitooma Town Council receive electricity in the next term, framing the move as a catalyst for business growth and rural modernization. He urged residents to understand the difference between general development and personal wealth creation.
Roads and electricity, he emphasized, offer opportunities but do not automatically generate income. Museveni encouraged farmers to embrace the four-acre model to maximize productivity, explaining that even in dairy-rich areas like Bushenyi, many families remain underproductive due to insufficient pasture management.
The president noted that the proportion of Ugandan households living outside the money economy has fallen from 68 percent to 30 percent, attributing the progress to boosted output in sectors like coffee, dairy, and palm oil, as well as expanding industrial parks. Janet Museveni expressed gratitude for the community’s steadfast support and urged them to safeguard the achievements made over the years by staying engaged politically.
Bushenyi NRM Chairperson Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba commended the government for delivering tangible infrastructure and economic milestones, including the banana factory and improved roads. He appealed for further investments such as an industrial park and a national medical insurance system, closing the rally with a call for unity, productivity, and strengthened civic participation.
