Ugandan music sensation Gift Ov Kaddo has chosen to step away from the relentless pace of Kampala, seeking a quieter, more meaningful life far from the city’s chaos.Once celebrated for electrifying performances and hit tracks, Kaddo now spends much of his time on the islands, immersing himself in fishing and the serene rhythms of lakeside living.
He attributes this major life shift to a transformative period during the Covid-19 lockdown.“During the lockdown, a friend brought me to an island, and I instantly realized it offered far more peace than the dust and commotion of Kampala,” Kaddo shared. He described how the pressures and overcrowding of city life had long taken a toll on him, making the island lifestyle irresistible.
Settling on Kisinzi Island in Mpatwa, Kyaggwe, the singer says he has found a renewed sense of belonging among local fishermen and residents. “City life had grown stifling, but here, I feel at home,” he added.Kaddo stressed that he hasn’t abandoned music but is now more intentional with his engagements. “I’ve invested so much in my craft over the years; I won’t just be available for every event,” he explained, highlighting a focus on projects that matter to him.
His decision reflects a conscious effort to strike a balance between personal well-being and professional life, prioritizing inner peace over fame and constant public attention. “I’d rather nurture animals or farm than endlessly chase the spotlight,” he said.Despite a lower public profile, Kaddo continues to make music selectively, blending his artistic passion with a grounded, self-sufficient way of living.
The change has allowed him to reconnect with the things that truly bring fulfillment.Kaddo’s journey mirrors a broader movement among artists seeking simpler, more sustainable lifestyles, proving that true success is measured not by visibility, but by peace, purpose, and a sense of genuine contentment.
