C-Care Uganda has taken a major step in transforming healthcare access in Northern Uganda with the official opening of a new specialist hospital in Gulu. The development is expected to significantly improve the availability of advanced medical services in the region.
The new C-Care Hospital Gulu is designed to serve communities across the Acholi, Lango, and West Nile sub-regions, where many patients have historically had to travel long distances to Kampala in search of specialised treatment and diagnostic care.
During the launch event held on Wednesday, Andrew Mugalu, the General Manager of C-Care IMC, noted that the facility was created to ease the pressure on patients who previously endured the burden of long-distance referrals for specialist services.
He explained that the hospital now enables medical professionals to deliver evidence-based care more effectively, supported by modern on-site diagnostic equipment that enhances accuracy and improves patient outcomes.
Mugalu further highlighted that having such services within the region would greatly reduce delays in treatment that were previously caused by the need to transfer patients to facilities in the capital.
The hospital comes equipped with advanced medical technology, including CT scan services, digital X-ray machines, and fully functional emergency care units. It also has a team of resident radiologists, technologists, and emergency medicine specialists to support patient care around the clock.
Speaking at the same event, Helene Echevin, Chief Executive Officer of C-Care International, emphasized that the investment reflects the organisation’s broader goal of decentralising high-quality healthcare and making it accessible beyond Kampala.
She added that future developments at the Gulu facility will include expanded inpatient capacity, an intensive care unit, a dedicated mother-and-child health centre, and a fully equipped accident and emergency department to further strengthen service delivery in the region.
