The political landscape in Uganda has been shaken by the sudden death of Moses Karangwa Kaliisa, the Senior Presidential Adviser on Special Duties and Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Kayunga District, following a devastating road accident.
Preliminary accounts indicate that the crash occurred on Sunday evening at Ssukka Village, near the Lake Oil area, a location within Kayunga District where the incident unfolded under still-unfolding circumstances.
Authorities and early eyewitness reports suggest the impact of the collision was extremely severe, with sources indicating that Karangwa died instantly at the scene before any emergency response could be effectively administered.
At the time of his death, Karangwa was serving as a Senior Presidential Adviser on Special Duties and remained a key figure within the ruling National Resistance Movement, where he also held the influential position of district chairperson in Kayunga.
His political journey had recently drawn attention after he reportedly entered and later withdrew from the race for NRM Vice Chairperson for the Central Region, a decision that sparked speculation within party ranks.
Insiders further suggest that his withdrawal followed high-level engagements with President Yoweri Museveni at State House Entebbe, which subsequently preceded his appointment as Senior Presidential Adviser on Special Duties.
Before his transfer to Kayunga’s political leadership structures, Karangwa had previously served as NRM Chairperson for Jinja Municipality, where he earned recognition as a strong grassroots mobiliser and influential party organiser.
