Colonel Emmanuel Ewama has officially assumed the role of Director of Human Resource Management for the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Land Forces, stepping into the position previously held by Brigadier General Edward Mutawe. The appointment marks a significant leadership transition at the Land Force Headquarters.
Brigadier General Mutawe, who has been appointed Uganda’s Defence Attaché to Ethiopia, handed over the responsibilities to Colonel Ewama in a formal ceremony that underscored continuity and commitment within the UPDF leadership. The event highlighted the structured process of leadership rotation and institutional stability in the military.
Presiding over the handover, Chief Joint Staff Land Forces, Brigadier General Chris Bagonza, praised both officers for their professionalism and dedication. He emphasized that the smooth transition of leadership ensures the ongoing efficiency and effectiveness of the Land Force’s human resource operations.
“There is no Alpha and Omega in this office. Another person can always come and continue the work; therefore, nobody is irreplaceable,” Brig Gen Bagonza noted, reinforcing the importance of humility, teamwork, and service over individual recognition within the UPDF hierarchy.
Colonel Ewama was encouraged to bring focus, discipline, and unwavering commitment to his new role, ensuring that human resource administration within the Land Force remains robust and responsive to the needs of personnel. Brig Gen Bagonza highlighted that strong HR management is central to sustaining operational readiness and morale.
In his farewell remarks, Brig Gen Mutawe expressed appreciation to the Land Force leadership and all departments for their support during his tenure. He urged Colonel Ewama to continue monitoring ongoing initiatives closely, ensuring continuity and progress, and wished him success in his new assignment.
Colonel Ewama, who previously served as Administrative Officer of the 1st Infantry Division, expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership for the trust placed in him. He pledged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism while focusing on improving personnel welfare and the efficiency of HR operations within the Land Forces.
The handover ceremony brought together directors and department heads from across the Land Force Headquarters, reflecting the collaborative spirit and organizational unity that the UPDF continues to cultivate. Colonel Ewama now faces the task of leading the Land Force HR function into a new phase of efficiency, accountability, and service excellence.
