A fresh debate has erupted over the health of Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV following claims that the royal family allegedly sought financial support from President Yoweri Museveni to help clear medical bills reportedly incurred abroad.
The controversy started after reports emerged claiming that the young monarch was receiving medical attention in the United States, with some sources alleging that he had been admitted to an Intensive Care Unit while battling a serious illness.
However, the Tooro Kingdom dismissed the reports, insisting that King Oyo was well and was abroad for official engagements as well as furthering his studies.
The Kingdom described the reports about the King’s health as false and misleading, urging members of the public to rely on official communication instead of what it termed as unverified information.
However, new claims from sources said to be close to State House have now created fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding King Oyo’s stay abroad.
According to the reports, the royal family allegedly wrote to President Yoweri Museveni seeking financial assistance towards medical expenses for both King Oyo and his mother, Queen Mother Best Kemigisa.

The alleged request has raised questions among the public, with some people wondering how the royal family could seek medical assistance while maintaining that the King was not seriously ill.
A source quoted in the reports questioned the contradiction, asking whether a request for financial support towards medical bills would mean that the information provided to the President was false if the Kingdom was denying reports of illness.
“If they’re denying, does it mean their letter to the President seeking for financial support towards medical bills abroad was fraud? Were they trying to defraud the President to pretend they’re seriously sick whereas not?” the source reportedly questioned.
However, the alleged letter requesting financial assistance has not been publicly released, and its contents, the amount reportedly requested, and whether President Museveni provided any support have not been independently confirmed.
Other reports have claimed that King Oyo and his team received billions of shillings from government shortly after arriving in the United States, although the purpose of the alleged funds has not been officially explained.
The claims have intensified public discussions about the King’s health and the reason behind his stay abroad.
Earlier reports had alleged that King Oyo was undergoing medical treatment in the United States and had been admitted to an ICU, with some sources claiming that he was battling cancer.
However, no medical records or official confirmation from the royal family have been released to support those claims.
The Tooro Kingdom maintained that the King was in good health and rejected what it described as malicious rumours and defamatory reports.
The latest allegations about the alleged request for financial assistance have reopened the debate, with many people seeking clarity about what exactly prompted the royal family to seek help from the President.
Observers argue that if such a request was made, details about the circumstances surrounding it would help clear the confusion surrounding the King’s health.

King Oyo has a close relationship with President Museveni, who has supported the Tooro Kingdom and maintained strong ties with the royal family over the years.
The relationship between the President and the Tooro monarchy dates back many years, with Museveni describing his connection to the King as one based on respect and loyalty.
The controversy has also revived memories of the death of King Oyo’s father, King Patrick David Mathew Olimi Kaboyo III, in 1995, an event that attracted public attention and discussion at the time.
Because of the history surrounding the Tooro royal family, reports about King Oyo’s health have attracted significant interest from the public.
As the debate continues, many Ugandans are waiting for further clarification from the royal family and relevant authorities regarding the alleged request for medical assistance and the King’s actual health situation.
For now, the major question remains whether the conflicting reports can be explained and whether more details will emerge about the circumstances surrounding King Oyo’s stay abroad.
