My name is Sarah, and I come from Masaka in Uganda. When I got married, I was convinced that I was beginning a wonderful new phase of my life. My husband and I looked forward to creating a peaceful home, bringing up our children and helping each other overcome life’s challenges.
Unfortunately, my marriage did not turn out as I had hoped. Although my husband and I sometimes disagreed, just like other couples, our biggest challenges started when his relatives began interfering in our relationship. In the early days, I tried my best to build a strong relationship with my in-laws.
I respected them because they were my husband’s family, and I believed that getting along with them would help create a stronger foundation for our marriage. With time, however, I started feeling unwanted whenever I visited them. Some of the things they said made me feel as though I was not the right woman for their son.
Whenever my husband and I had disagreements, I noticed that his relatives often sided with him without giving me an opportunity to explain myself. The situation became increasingly painful when I realised that some of them wanted my husband to end our marriage.
They frequently questioned our relationship and made remarks that caused me to doubt whether they sincerely wanted us to have a happy and successful marriage.I attempted to explain everything to my husband, hoping he would understand the emotional pain I was experiencing. At first, he seemed to pay attention to my concerns, but gradually, I began noticing that his behaviour towards me was changing.Whenever his relatives expressed dissatisfaction with me, he appeared more willing to accept their claims.
Our arguments became more frequent, and I started fearing that his family’s continued interference would eventually destroy our marriage. There was a particular period when I felt as though I had nobody to turn to.
I was fighting to keep my marriage together while simultaneously trying to live peacefully with people who appeared determined to drive me away.I spent many days wondering how I could rescue my relationship.
I genuinely loved my husband, and I did not want to lose our marriage because of unnecessary conflicts and interference from other people. One day, I decided to confide in someone about the difficulties I was experiencing, and during our conversation, I heard about. To read more, tap here
