Tooro Kingdom has broken its silence over reports circulating on social media claiming that Omukama Rukirabasaija Dr. Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is critically ill and admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the United States.
The Kingdom has dismissed the reports as false, assuring the people of Tooro and Ugandans at large that their monarch is in stable health and is currently outside the country for official duties and academic engagements.
In a statement issued by Obukama bwa Tooro, the Kingdom clarified that King Oyo’s journey abroad was not related to any medical emergency as had been alleged in some reports.
The Kingdom said the misinformation caused unnecessary concern among the King’s subjects, urging the public to ignore unverified claims and instead rely on official communication channels for updates concerning the Omukama.
“He [Omukama Oyo] is currently abroad for official duty and to further his studies,” the Kingdom stated.
The clarification came after reports emerged online claiming that the youthful monarch had travelled to the United States after allegedly falling ill and being admitted to hospital.

The reports caused anxiety among members of the Tooro community both within Uganda and abroad, with many subjects expressing concern and sending messages of prayers for their King.
However, the Kingdom moved quickly to address the rumours, stating that there was no truth in claims that the Omukama was receiving treatment in an ICU.
Officials from Obukama bwa Tooro urged the public to be cautious about information shared on social media, especially concerning sensitive matters such as the health of cultural leaders.
They emphasized that official statements from the Kingdom remain the most reliable source of information regarding the activities and wellbeing of the Omukama.
Omukama Oyo, who is now 34 years old, became the King of Tooro in 1995 following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.
At only three years old, Oyo became one of the youngest monarchs in modern history, attracting international attention because of his unique position.
Due to his young age at the time of ascending the throne, the affairs of the Kingdom were initially guided by a regency arrangement as he continued with his education and prepared for his future royal responsibilities.
Over the years, King Oyo has grown into his role as a cultural leader, representing Tooro Kingdom at various national and international events.
He has been involved in promoting youth empowerment, tourism, environmental conservation and development initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people in Tooro.

The Tooro Kingdom remains one of Uganda’s most respected cultural institutions, representing the heritage and identity of the Batooro people in western Uganda.
The Kingdom’s headquarters are located at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal City, where cultural activities and royal engagements are coordinated.
Although traditional leaders in Uganda do not hold political authority, kingdoms continue to play an important role in preserving culture, promoting unity and supporting community development.
King Oyo’s leadership has focused on maintaining the relevance of the institution while encouraging education, investment and opportunities for young people.
The Kingdom has therefore called upon the public to disregard rumours about the Omukama’s health and continue supporting him as he carries out his official responsibilities.
As concerns surrounding his alleged illness fade, the people of Tooro have been reassured that their King is safe, healthy and continuing with his duties abroad.
