Biara Emmanuel Wepukhulu recently appeared live on NBS TV at 9, where he shared his vision for improving Uganda’s sports and education sectors through stronger investment in young people. A former footballer and dedicated youth advocate since 2020, he stressed the importance of empowering the younger generation as a foundation for national progress and long-term development.
During the discussion, Hon. Biara highlighted that a large percentage of Uganda’s population is made up of young people between the ages of 18 and 35. He described this group as talented, energetic, and capable of achieving remarkable success if given the right opportunities, guidance, and support systems.
He pointed to the increasing number of football players from different countries competing in major international leagues in nations such as the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, and the United States. According to him, these examples demonstrate that sports has evolved beyond recreation into a serious and profitable profession that can transform lives and create employment opportunities for young people.
Hon. Biara therefore called on the government and relevant stakeholders to give sports development greater priority by increasing investment and creating structured programs that nurture talent from an early age. He noted that proper support would help identify gifted youth, guide their growth, and open doors to both local and international opportunities.
Drawing from his own experience supporting youth initiatives, including sponsoring football tournaments and assisting young athletes, he explained that targeted investment in sports can positively change communities and provide hope for many young people seeking a better future.
He also expressed concern over the state of sports infrastructure in the Bugisu sub-region, saying it remains the only old sub-region without a modernized stadium. Hon. Biara specifically emphasized the urgent need to rehabilitate Mbale Stadium, arguing that improved facilities would boost sports development, nurture local talent, and attract major competitions to the region.
Throughout the interview, Hon. Biara maintained that investing in youth should remain a national priority. He explained that when young people are supported through quality education, sports programs, and proper infrastructure, they can fully develop their abilities and contribute meaningfully to society.
His message centered on the belief that Uganda’s future depends heavily on how well the country prepares and empowers its youth today. With stronger policies, increased funding, and improved facilities, he believes young people can transform their talents into successful careers while driving national growth and development.
