Hon. Biara Emmanuel Wepukhulu has renewed his commitment to supporting children affected by disaster after visiting Yoweri Museveni Primary School in Namatala, Mbale District, where he met ten pupils benefiting from the Biara Foundation Scholarship Program.
The learners, all orphaned during the tragic Bulambuli landslides, continue to face the long-term effects of losing their parents, with education standing as their strongest hope for rebuilding their lives.
The visit offered an opportunity for Hon. Wepukhulu to engage directly with the pupils and receive feedback from teachers and school administrators regarding their academic progress and general wellbeing.
School authorities commended the scholarship initiative for ensuring continuity in education for the affected children, noting that it has played a vital role in keeping them in school despite their difficult circumstances.
At the same time, the administration raised concern over several unmet needs, including lack of uniforms, limited scholastic materials, and inconsistent access to meals, which they said continue to hinder the learners’ comfort and performance.
Hon. Wepukhulu acknowledged these challenges and explained that the foundation’s initial support model focused mainly on tuition fees, but emphasized that plans are underway to expand assistance to cover broader requirements that directly affect the children’s daily learning experience.
He stressed that supporting education must go beyond paying fees, adding that true impact is achieved when vulnerable learners are provided with all the essentials needed to learn with dignity and confidence.
The visit concluded with appreciation from pupils and teachers, who described the intervention as a source of renewed hope for children determined to overcome tragedy and build a better future through education.
