A group of Members of Parliament from the Teso sub-region have appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to extend mercy, forgiveness, and reconciliation to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, citing concerns over her current physical and emotional condition.
In an open letter addressed to the President, the lawmakers said they visited Among and observed that she appeared distressed, urging the Head of State to consider a compassionate approach towards her situation.
The MPs argued that forgiveness and reconciliation are important values that help strengthen unity and healing, especially during moments of difficulty faced by individuals and communities.
According to the legislators, Among’s current challenges have affected not only her personally but also people who rely on her businesses, support networks, and charitable activities.
They claimed that the freezing of her accounts has created financial difficulties, affecting her ability to meet obligations and support various groups that have benefited from her initiatives.
The MPs said they were concerned about the impact of the situation on Among’s wellbeing, describing her as a leader who has contributed to the development of the Teso region and Uganda at large.

They appealed to President Museveni, as the country’s leader and a senior political figure, to consider a path of compassion and dialogue.
The lawmakers emphasized that acts of forgiveness can promote peace and restore confidence among citizens, especially in times when tensions and disagreements arise.
They said their appeal was based on their interaction with Among and their observations about the challenges she is currently facing.
The MPs noted that leaders, like all citizens, can go through difficult periods and may require support, guidance, and an opportunity for reconciliation.
They called on authorities and stakeholders to consider the human side of the matter while addressing any concerns surrounding Among.
The legislators also highlighted the importance of protecting the welfare of families, employees, and communities that may be indirectly affected by decisions involving public figures.
They said many people in Teso and beyond continue to value Among’s contributions and are concerned about her current circumstances.
The MPs urged President Museveni to consider a solution that balances accountability with compassion, saying both principles are important in building a fair society.
They described their visit to Among as an opportunity to understand her personal struggles and assess the challenges she is experiencing.

The lawmakers appealed for dialogue and reconciliation, saying disagreements should not permanently destroy relationships built over many years of public service.
They further asked national leaders to embrace approaches that encourage healing and unity among Ugandans.
The appeal comes amid ongoing discussions about Among’s political future and the challenges surrounding her public life.
The former Speaker has faced increased scrutiny in recent times, with various matters attracting public attention and debate.
The Teso MPs said their request was made out of concern for her wellbeing and the interests of those who depend on her support.
They concluded by asking President Museveni to consider their plea and extend forgiveness, saying compassion from leadership can help promote peace, stability, and reconciliation.
