Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said that one of his major priorities is to help Uganda achieve President Yoweri Museveni’s ambitious economic target of reaching a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 500 billion dollars by 2031.
Speaking about the country’s future economic direction, Gen Muhoozi said that the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has a responsibility to support efforts aimed at transforming Uganda into a stronger and more prosperous economy.
He stated that achieving such a target would require commitment, discipline and close monitoring of government programmes across different sectors.
“Our task as PLU is to achieve Mzee’s target of a 500 billion dollar GDP by 2031. I will supervise all government departments to achieve that goal,” Gen Muhoozi said.
The statement highlights his intention to play a role in ensuring that government institutions remain focused on implementing policies designed to boost economic growth.
Gen Muhoozi said that every government department must work towards delivering results that directly contribute to national development and improving the lives of Ugandans.

He emphasized that sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, technology and trade would be critical in driving Uganda’s economic expansion.
According to Gen Muhoozi, Uganda has the potential to become one of the leading economies on the African continent if available resources are properly utilized.
He noted that effective supervision and accountability would be important in ensuring that government plans are successfully implemented.
The PLU leader said that economic transformation requires cooperation between government agencies, private investors and ordinary citizens.
He added that Uganda’s young population presents a major opportunity for innovation, entrepreneurship and increased productivity.
Gen Muhoozi’s remarks come as Uganda continues to focus on long-term development plans aimed at expanding the economy and creating more opportunities for citizens.
He said that government departments should not only focus on policies but also on measurable achievements that can be seen by the public.
The call for increased supervision comes amid ongoing discussions about improving efficiency in public institutions and reducing challenges associated with delayed implementation of government projects.
Gen Muhoozi said that leaders must work together to ensure that Uganda’s economic ambitions become a reality.

He also pointed out that achieving a larger economy would require attracting investments, supporting businesses and strengthening key industries.
The target of a 500 billion dollar GDP by 2031 would represent a significant expansion of Uganda’s current economic size and would require sustained growth over several years.
Economic experts have previously noted that such growth would depend on factors including increased exports, industrial development, improved infrastructure and a stable investment environment.
Gen Muhoozi said that his role would involve encouraging government departments to remain committed to national goals and deliver according to expectations.
He urged leaders and officials to prioritize development programmes that create wealth, employment and better living standards for Ugandans.
As Uganda looks ahead to its future economic plans, Gen Muhoozi’s remarks signal his continued involvement in discussions surrounding governance, national development and economic transformation.
