Minister of State for Local Government Balaam Barugahara and State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere have stepped in to support 66 needy pupils at Mirembe RC Primary School in Masaka after being touched by the difficult conditions facing the learners.
The two leaders bought school uniforms and shoes for the pupils after visiting the school and noticing that some children were attending classes without proper learning materials and basic school requirements.
According to reports, Balaam and Nameere were moved by the situation of the learners, many of whom were struggling to attend school due to a lack of essential items needed for their education.
The ministers decided to personally contribute funds to provide new uniforms and shoes, giving the pupils a renewed sense of confidence and hope as they continue with their studies.
The support was welcomed by teachers, parents and pupils who expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying the assistance would help reduce some of the challenges affecting learners at the school.
For many children, having a proper school uniform and shoes is not only about appearance but also improves their confidence and sense of belonging while at school.

Teachers at Mirembe RC Primary School said some learners had been coming to school in difficult conditions because their families could not afford basic school requirements.
The intervention by Balaam and Nameere came after they personally witnessed the struggles faced by some pupils during their visit.
The ministers said they could not ignore what they saw and felt the need to respond immediately to help the affected children.
The donation has sparked conversations about the importance of leaders visiting communities and understanding the real challenges affecting ordinary citizens.
Education stakeholders have often called on leaders to support vulnerable learners, arguing that lack of basic necessities can force some children to lose interest in education.
Parents of the beneficiaries thanked the ministers for considering the needs of children who require support to remain in school.
They said the new uniforms and shoes would make a big difference in the lives of the pupils and encourage them to attend classes regularly.
The gesture also highlighted the continued challenges faced by some schools where families struggle to provide school necessities due to economic hardships.
While government continues to invest in education programmes, many communities still rely on additional support from leaders, organisations and well-wishers to address specific needs.

Balaam and Nameere’s action has been described by supporters as an example of leaders directly responding to problems they encounter among citizens.
The ministers encouraged other leaders and well-wishers to support vulnerable children and contribute towards improving education standards in their communities.
They noted that helping children access education is an investment in the future of the country.
The support at Mirembe RC Primary School comes at a time when many schools across Uganda continue to face challenges related to poverty, learning materials and infrastructure.
The beneficiaries are expected to continue attending school with improved confidence after receiving the new uniforms and shoes.
The initiative has received positive reactions from residents who believe that small acts of support can create a meaningful impact in the lives of disadvantaged children.
