Tooro Kingdom has been thrown into uncertainty following reports that its youthful monarch, Omukama Rukirabasaija Dr. Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, is receiving medical attention in the United States.
Sources close to the royal family claim that the 34-year-old King, who is among the world’s youngest reigning monarchs, has reportedly been admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a hospital in the United States.
The reports further allege that King Oyo is battling cancer, although the Tooro Kingdom administration and the royal household had not issued an official statement confirming the reported illness or ICU admission.
According to sources within royal circles, the King has spent several months in the United States where he has reportedly been undergoing treatment.
The exact hospital where the monarch is said to be receiving medical care has not been publicly disclosed, with sources claiming that the royal family wanted to maintain privacy around his condition.
A source close to the royal family said there were concerns that keeping the matter private for too long could create unnecessary speculation among his subjects.

The source reportedly said the family wanted the people of Tooro to know about the situation and pray for their King as he continues receiving medical attention.
The reports have also raised concern because King Oyo’s mother, Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, is also said to have been receiving medical attention in the United States for a health condition.
Sources claim that the Queen Mother and her son have at times attended medical appointments during their stay abroad, although they are reportedly being treated for different conditions.
Back in Uganda, there have also been concerns over the health of Prince David Kiijanangoma Araali, a relative of King Oyo, who has reportedly been receiving treatment at the Mulago Cancer Institute.
King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV was born on April 16, 1992, and became Omukama of Tooro at the age of three following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick Matthew David Kaboyo Olimi III, in 1995.
His early reign was managed under a regency arrangement because of his young age, before he gradually took on royal responsibilities as he grew older.
King Oyo was officially crowned on April 17, 1995, at Karuzika Palace in Fort Portal in a ceremony that attracted attention from across Uganda and beyond.
Over the years, he has represented Tooro Kingdom in cultural, social and development activities, becoming a symbol of continuity for the institution.
His leadership has focused on promoting culture, tourism, education, environmental conservation and community development initiatives.
Tooro Kingdom remains one of Uganda’s traditional kingdoms with a long history and deep cultural importance among the Batoro people.

The Kingdom’s headquarters are based in Fort Portal, with Karuzika Palace serving as the official residence and administrative centre of the monarch.
The institution was abolished in 1967 during the government of President Milton Obote but was later restored in 1993 under President Yoweri Museveni.
Following the restoration of traditional institutions, King Oyo’s father became the first Omukama of Tooro before his death in 1995.
Oyo’s rise to the throne at such a young age attracted international attention and made him one of the most recognised young monarchs in the world.
The current reports about his health have caused concern among his subjects in Uganda and those living abroad, with many waiting for official communication from Karuzika Palace.
For now, members of the Tooro community continue to hope for positive news about the condition of their King as they await further updates from the royal family.
