Tooro Kingdom has launched a fundraising drive targeting Shs925 million to support preparations for the coronation of the new Omukama, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, scheduled for September 29, 2026.
The coronation organising committee has appealed to the people of Tooro, friends of the kingdom and well-wishers to contribute towards the historic ceremony.
Msgr Isaiah Mayombo, the organising committee chairperson, said preparations are progressing well and urged supporters to play a role in making the event successful.
Finance committee head Alex Ruhunda said an official account has been opened at Centenary Bank, while contributions can also be made through mobile money.
The ceremony is expected to attract cultural, political and religious leaders, business communities and other guests. President Yoweri Museveni is expected to attend as chief guest.
Traditional rituals will begin on the night of September 28 before the main coronation ceremony on September 29, which will start with a church service at St John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal before the official installation at Karuziika Palace.
Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I was selected by the Babiito ruling clan to succeed the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died in August at the age of 34.
